Looks like patent licensing could be the reason Disney will not be doing further 2D to 3D conversion, as well as the conversions not making as much money as hoped: Why Disney Stops 2D-to-3D Conversions.

3D Visualization Apps are Coming – to the web and mobile worlds
I expect to see greater use of 3D in both online and offline apps, and in mobile apps too, for visualizing information that naturally fits within a 3D model:
CyberLightning Oulu, Finland and StockSmart will bring together the power of 3D visualization to investors using StockSmart Apps. Currently in Beta test, the new StockSmart Apps will be released in May 2013.

Indeed, this is a topic I am doing some serious thinking about 🙂
Flickr bug makes private photos public
And in an attempt to fix the problem, Flickr broke numerous links to photos hosted on Flickr:
Flickr set “any potentially impacted photos” to private, in an attempt to make things right. However, this has caused additional problems for affected users, who found that their intentionally public photos were now private. Some users reported that they now have to comb through hundreds of photos and manually set them back to public. Setting a photo to private also apparently wipes the description and breaks the code anywhere else the photo is embedded on the web.

Websites that hosted all of their photos on Flickr now find their photo links must all be manually re-done, which is considerable work for long time sites that have hundreds of linked photos.
3D position sensing could see wide application use
Beyond Kinect, PrimeSense wants to drive 3D sensing into more everyday consumer gear | VentureBeat.
We already see 3D sensing in Kinect and to some extent its used in smart phones and tablets. New technology intends to make it possible to sense a large amount of position information – to create new kinds of user interfaces, and for retail surveillance (systems that watch what each shopper touches within a store).

CES: Nobody Cares About 3D – says 3D is dead.
I don’t expect much from IGN and they do not disappoint:
Each major manufacturer had at least one 3D demo at their booth, but gone are the elaborate 3D installations that would greet you as you entered.
Hello? LG had the world’s largest 3D video wall on display – you CANNOT MISS IT as it encompassed the main entry to Central Hall.
3D was on display but 4k – and sometimes 8k – (all with 3D built in) is the main item promoted big and loud at CES. Yet, there is no 4k content available for all those consumers clamoring to buy a 4k TV.
Then we have this Fox News item – 3D is dead – (its a content free news story by the way).
But then we get to “The Future of 3D” which says 3D is here to stay with some actual reporting that backs that up.
I am anxious to write up an explanation of the 3D business, where we’ve been and where we may be headed. 3D is far from dead.
