3D Photography Tips (3D Porch) – this is great info!

3D Photography Tips (3D Porch).

Something I noticed is that “wiggle” shots are also done differently than regular stereoscopic shots. For example, the 3rd page of 3Dporch’s tips illustrates this where the foreground is made to move while the background is held constant.

Normally, when shooting 3D we like to have the closer subjects centered at the viewing plane (in the Z-axis) which is very different than how 3D works in a “wiggle” shot.

And note how in this wiggle 3D image, framing the photo works well, while many 3D enthusiasts would call this a “frame violation”.

3d photos taken with a single camera

While hiking I took several 3D photos using a single Canon SX1 IS camera. This works by taking a photo and then sliding the camera a couple of inches to the right and taking the same photo again. The left and right images are then combined with Stereo Photo Maker to create a 3D image.

Obviously, when handheld, camera pointing is not perfectly aligned in the left and right images. Much of the alignment can be cleaned up in Stereo Photo Maker but there will be little artifacts, like lens barrel distortion, still present. But still, this is an interesting way of easily photographing 3D photos of stationary subjects.

3D ecosystem needs quality 3D content

3D TVs themselves are no longer a hot topic at Berlin’s IFA Consumer Electronics Fair. Instead, customers now are more interested in bringing quality 3D movies to the home entertainment systems in their living rooms.

“For the most part, it’s disastrous rubbish. More than half are fraud and creepy. On the whole they are not stacked up to what they are supposed to be.”
